Mitad del Mundo to Las Tolas

We have been out of touch for a while, as internet is spotty in our new home of Las Tolas, but we are all doing great!

To pick up where we left off, we left Quito three days ago after a morning of trying some unique local fruits.

Next we headed to Mitad del Mundo, where we learned about pre-Colombian cultures and experienced some planetary phenomena at the Equator.

That evening we arrived in Las Tolas to the warm embrace of the community! We all tried empanadas de zapallo (squash) and hot chocolate at the welcome party, and used our Spanish to get to know the locals. After choosing our group name, Llamas Unidas (United Llamas), we were ready to start working!
These past few days, we’ve been working on building lodging for future volunteers and visitors, cleaning and painting the Main Street that runs through the town, and starting a plant nursery. Our team has been working so hard, and all while speaking in Spanish! We couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve already accomplished!
